Het Nutshuis and Movies that Matter Festival (22 - 28 March 2012) date every year. In 2012 we have taken women as the topic. So on the opening night of the festival, we are proud to host the first screening of the documentary Love Crimes of Kabul.
Jailed for running away from home to escape abuse, for allegations of adultery, and other "moral crimes," the women of Afghanistan's Badum Bagh prison band together to fight for their freedom.
TALK: The screening will be followed by a talk moderated by Naima Azough with Zairah Khan and Nili Ansari
Zairah Khan is a Dutch - Pakistani writer, anthropologist, feminist and social entrepreneur based in Den Haag. She made a documentary on women's rights and has worked as founding coordinator of WO=MEN, the Dutch gender Platform.
Nili Ansari works as volunteer for the Nahid Foundation and its Women Shelter in Afghanistan

DODO Series: WE MEAN WOMEN!
To mark this year's International Women's Day, Het Nutshuis is dedicating the March & April series of DODO evenings to women and the community. These 4 very different contemporary stories feature women living in particular social colonies. A provincial town, a prison, an island, a village. In search of a better life, these ordinary girls take action and make choices that determine not only their own present, but almost imperceptibly, their sisters' future.
A special highlight of the programme is the Movies that Matter Festival evening, March 22nd.
DODO: WE MEAN WOMEN is a series of docs + talks moderated by Naima Azough. During the discussions following the screenings, Naima will be joined by artists, activists for women's rights and filmmakers.
The dodo (Raphus Cucullatus) stood about a metre tall, weighing about 20 kilos, living on fruit and nesting on the ground. DODO is the documentary film programme in Het Nutshuis. We screen on Thursday.
